I visited a 5th grade class at 1st Street Elementary School in the Boyle Heights section of Los Angeles to talk with them about their dreams. These students proudly stood before their classmates and shared their interests and dreams. After all the students shared with the class, I told them how impressed I was and how ironic it was that students at the local high school—Roosevelt—were terrified to share with their classmates their dreams. One of the 5th grade students then raised his hand and asked, “Mister, have they given up on their dreams?” I responded that maybe they have. The students then decided to challenge the students at Roosevelt High School to go after their dreams and wrote this letter to students at Roosevelt.
